Adrian Gonzalez...Wasting Away

John Moore's divorce is crippling the Padres, a team a few seasons back that was routinely competing in the NL West. Adrian Gonzalez is a local kid, a Mexican-American in a heavily Latino fan base, and is signed to a very affordable contract considering how good this guy really is. Take a look at that lineup though, at that whole organization. There is no help there or on the way up, and the Padres are at least 3-4 years away from possibly competing. They need to unload whatever guys carry value, trim payroll and re-stock the system. That is the blueprint for solidify the organization, a tried and true method that some teams do better than others. Not every prospect pans out, but the Padres have a bare cupboard right now. A package of Clay Buchholz, Lars Anderson, Ryan Westmoreland, that should be good enough to get Adrian Gonzalez in a Red Sox uniform.
Pairing Buchholz and Ellsbury is too much! Both kids are stars in the making. Ellsbury will be a guy that hits .300, with 50 doubles, a TON of steals, 10-15 home runs and Gold Glove center field. That kind of guy doesn't come up every year, doesn't grow on trees. Buchholz is a no. 4 or 5 starter in Boston but would be a 1 or a 2 in San Diego (no Peavy, an injured Chris Young). In a few years Buchholz would be mowing down the crappy lineups the Giants and Rockies are throwing out there every day. Jed Hoyer should ask for 3-4 top guys, but not Ells and Buchholz together. Guys like Lowrie, Bowden, Kalish, Reddick, DelCarmen, even Hermida would be good for the Pads.
